The Hobbit Novel Study
The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien is a classic fantasy adventure novel that follows Bilbo Baggins, a quiet hobbit who is unexpectedly drawn into a dangerous journey with a group of dwarves and the wizard Gandalf. As they travel through mysterious lands filled with dragons, goblins, elves, and riddles, Bilbo gradually discovers courage, intelligence, and strength he never knew he possessed. In this course, students will explore themes such as bravery, friendship, greed, personal growth, and the meaning of heroism. Through close reading, guided discussion, and literary analysis, students will examine world-building, symbolism, character development, and the structure of epic fantasy storytelling. Writing activities will include reading reflections, character analysis, creative world-building, and analytical paragraph writing. The course strengthens reading comprehension, critical thinking, and expressive writing while introducing students to one of the most influential works in fantasy literature.
